MIT has always been a forerunner in improving the system of education. They offer free courses and believe in inclusive and FREE education for all. Scratch is an amazing initiative by MIT; it is a free educational programming language. It has over 64 million registered users and 67 million shared projects.

Scratch is perfect for children aged 7-16 yrs old and can be used to create stories that are interactive. Children can make cartoons, animations, games, birthday cards, and much, much more using Scratch and their imagination ;). It is colorful, fun, easy, and very intuitive. It even has its own paint editor where children can draw their own characters. They can also record sound effects and their own voices to use in their games and stories.

Scratch has programming blocks that have to be dragged and dropped in a coding area where they fit each other like in a jigsaw puzzle. This form of programming has gained much prominence in recent years and has come to be known as “drag and drop programming”. Many other ventures have come up since MIT developed Scratch and Code.org deserves a special mention. They offer one hour of code classes in which children can learn how to code using their favorite games and movies like Frozen and Star Wars.

I have used both Code.org and Scratch to teach coding to children and beginners. All my classes are numbered so that they are easy to follow. Each class is easy but comprehensive so that the beginners to programming are not overwhelmed.

I hope to see coding/ computer programming becoming as common as other subjects like Mathematics. This is the time of the computers so what are you waiting for? Start learning to code now.
