Today is a very big day for all the children who have been using my worksheets to practice their phonics. I am finally finished with making my group 4. Yes, it took longer than expected. My son is in grade 9 and he was having trouble with some new maths concepts so I got busy with that along with my new online coding classes.<\/div>\n
Group 4 in Jolly Phonics is the first group with long vowel sounds.\u00a0So, what are long vowel sounds?<\/b>\u00a0Long vowel sounds are the sounds that say the name of the vowel. For example, both “ai”<\/b>\u00a0and “ay<\/b>” say the name of the letter\u00a0“a<\/b>“<\/span>. Remember that in group 1 we learned that\u00a0“<\/span>a<\/b>“<\/span>\u00a0has the\u00a0\/a\/\u00a0<\/b>sound that comes\u00a0from our mouth when we say\u00a0“ant”<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\ud83d\udc1c\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and “apple”<\/b>\u00a0\ud83c\udf4e<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0This was the short vowel sound of\u00a0“<\/span>a<\/b>“<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0Now, children are being taught that\u00a0“<\/span>a<\/b>“<\/span>\u00a0in combination with some other letter will make a long sound that is exactly like the name of the letter\u00a0“<\/span>a<\/b>“<\/span>.\u00a0Try saying words like paid, gain,\u00a0 and say. You will hear yourself saying the name of the letter\u00a0“<\/span>a<\/b>“.\u00a0<\/span>In the beginning, Jolly Phonics just focuses on one spelling of the long vowel sounds such as\u00a0“ai”<\/span><\/b>. Alternate spelling such as\u00a0ay<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0a_e<\/span><\/b>\u00a0are taught later.<\/div>\n

The following image shows the seven groups of Jolly Phonics along with an extra group (alternate spellings) taught by my Phonics app on Google Play Store.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phonics Fun<\/strong> is my android app available for free on Google Play Store<\/a><\/strong>. The entire version is completely free. It has all 42 sounds of jolly phonics along with cute pictures. The children can practice their learning by playing 16<\/b> levels of matching games! So, it is definitely a fun way of practicing phonics.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

So, have a further peek inside my group 4 worksheets. They follow the same pattern as my previous jolly phonics worksheets. Group 4 covers the sounds: <\/span>ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or<\/span>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0There are matching, coloring, writing, and blending activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
