Hello friends,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, we will be introducing adding and subtraction for kids. I have not published anything for a while. I was actually busy managing the social media for my 13 yrs old son who recently published his app on Google Play Store \ud83d\ude0a<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I am back and I will try to create and publish something unique every week.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I covered addition in one set of my preschool worksheets and I think it is high time that I should cover subtraction. Both addition and subtraction are basic math concepts and are taught to children before they start studying multiplication and division.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

As you know I believe in colorful worksheets so I have tried to make the worksheets as colorful and vibrant as possible. The theme in these worksheets is Autumn<\/span><\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Tips for learning addition and subtraction:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The concepts of addition and subtraction can be taught to children even before they start writing. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Counting:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first step is counting. Teach counting while children are playing with their toys such as blocks. You can also use my free mobile app<\/a> that teaches counting up to 10 using cute farming activities. It is 100% free and available on Google Play Store.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Addition:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once they know counting up to 10, you can start teaching the concept of addition. You can tell them the important words used when we talk about addition such as add<\/span><\/b>, plus<\/b><\/span>, together<\/span><\/b>, and sum<\/span><\/b>. While playing with them, put some toys in one pile and put some toys in another pile, and ask them to count them together to get the “sum<\/b>” or “answer<\/b>“. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask them to count on their fingers. For example, ask them to show 2 fingers on one hand and 3 fingers on the other hand and ask them to count them together to get the sum of 2 and 3.  Don’t overdo it and keep it an enjoyable activity. Five minutes in one play session is more than enough for preschoolers. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Subtraction:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, you can teach subtraction using blocks, crayons, and other small items. For example, make a pile of six crayons and ask them what happens if two crayons are taken away. Tell them important words used when we are talking about subtraction such as minus<\/span>, subtract<\/span>, difference<\/span><\/b>, and take away.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make learning fun <\/span><\/b>this way so that by the time the children are ready to do worksheets, they are already familiar with the concept of addition<\/span><\/b> and subtraction<\/span><\/b>. I am sure that this way they will find their worksheets a piece of cake. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, get some stickers and encourage the children when they have done their worksheets. Children love stickers and love to get them on their worksheets when they finish their work.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
